Hi, I’m Yuri!

After 10 years in the wilderness I’m starting another blog. I’m a self-taught software engineer who went from sysadmin to working professionally in web analytics with JS, to Python web services, to Objective-C and Swift on iOS.

I just wrote a book and I’m making a cross-platform game in C++, among other things.

Noriki (乗り気, pronounced no-ree-kee) in Japanese means “interest” or “enthusiasm”. It’s what I want to show with this website: there is excitement to be found in software (even if you’re bored now).

Doesn’t sound terribly exciting, does it?

Well, at least you now know one Japanese word.

I like to go off on tangents (I call it Chaotic Software Development™) and do extensive research on topics most people would find excruciatingly boring (I call that Esoteric Lore™). Sometimes it results in software that does something useful.
